QB Baker scores five touchdowns as Humble rolls 41-10

With its offense getting closer to 100 percent, Humble looked sharp in a 41-10 romp over Humble Atascocita Friday night.

The Wildcats struggled early in the first, going three-and-out on their opening possession.

But from there it was smooth sailing. Quarterback Keith Baker completed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Darius Tubbs with two minutes left in the first to put Humble up 7-0.

The Wildcats went on to score touchdowns on their next three possessions to take a 7-0 halftime lead. The defense was equally stellar, holding Atascocita to minus-9 yards rushing on 16 carries in the first half.

Atascocita head coach Dean Colbert said that field position helped put the Eagles behind quickly - Humble began six of its seven first-half possessions from inside its own 40 yard-line.

“Early in the game, we just weren’t in a favorable position on the field,” Colbert said. “That helped them fall behind early and it just stumbled from there.”

Baker completed 9 of 17 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns in his second game back from a back injury. He also rushed 12 times for 71 yards and three touchdowns.

This game is the third all-time meeting between these two schools. Atascocita was formed three years ago mostly with students from Humble High School pull zones, and because of the familiarity the two schools have developed something of a rivalry.

So far, though, the rivalry has been one-sided: Atascocita’s lone touchdown, which brought the score to 41-10, marked the Eagles’ first-ever touchdown against the WIldcats.

Humble head coach Walt Beasley said he wants to keep the rivalry one-sided.

“They challenge us every year,” Beasley said. “They think that they need to beat us to arrive as a football team, and we’re trying to delay that as much as possible.”
