Lady Trojans get their groove back with district game
By WAYNE RHYMES
The Lady Trojans found their groove playing with passion and togetherness after winning a district game last week.
The girls have lost to Splendora, Tarkington and Liberty but with each game they improved and played with more effort really showing.
Coach Patterson knows that is what it will take for them to win and be successful.
“We have been playing well this week except we have not been able to finish games. Tonight against Shepherd, that’s what they did and they won,” Coach Patterson said.
The Lady Trojans desperately needed someone on their team to step up, as Coach Patterson expressed to her team before going into last week. The Lady Trojans lost three games before they won against the Lady Pirates on Friday, but the win is what was needed. They fought the Lady Pirates with long volleys back and forth.
They were without their starter and last year’s MVP Jessica Lilley, who missed the game due to having to prepare for being nominated as homecoming queen.
The Lady Trojans’ Kim Ousman began her attack from the beginning with blocks and kills. This ignited the Chelseay King, Coco Holmes and Brooke Sweeney as they found themselves smiling and playing with their hearts, an ingredient that was lost at the beginning of district play.
“The girls are playing well and I was glad to see that we were not bothered by the four games this week. They played hard and have improved the entire week. We will be a different team when we see everyone again the second round,” Coach Patterson said.
The Lady Trojans were led by Coco Holmes with seven kills, Casey Lilley with seven kills and Kim Ousman with five kills. Brooke Sweeney added 16 digs and two blocks. Hannah Hill had 11 digs and two blocks. Coco Holmes also provided nine assists and Quinetta Reese provided four.
The Lady Trojans stepped up, not individually but as a team, and with the second half of district beginning this week they might have came together at the right time.
The Lady Trojans played against the Lady Indians Tuesday but due to the paper’s delivery schedule the results will be in next week’s paper. On Friday they will play against the Lady Longhorns in Tarkington.
