A little more than two months after Southeast Texas Taekwondo Academy was certified by American Top Team, it is preparing for its first Mixed Martial Arts Seminar.

The school, located in Tomball off of FM 2920 and Kobs Rd., will be opening its doors Nov. 15 for American Top Team MMA fighter, Yves Edwards (34-14), who will be teaching a seminar on the form of martial arts that has swept the country.

Edwards has been fighting since 1997 and has fought numerous high profile fighters including Hermes Franca, Josh Thomson, KJ Noons, and Matt Serra. He has fought for several fighting organizations including The Ultimate Fighting Championship, Pride Fighting Championships, Bodog Fight, Elite XC, and King of the Cage.

“This is pretty huge,” said STTA Master Instructor Josh Arcemont. “He’s up there in the ranks. It’s pretty cool to have someone coming over to the school.”

Edwards will also be teaching STTA students and non-students and will also offer private lessons. He will be joining the academy after the seminar at Wing, Pizza and Things Sports Grill to watch the UFC between Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar. He will also be fighting on Showtime EliteXC, Nov. 8.

Arcemont said the goal is to fill the school without 50 people, but added that there was no limit to how many people could attend.

“It says a lot about our MMA program and what we’ll be able to offer.”
