Last Monday evening, State Representative John Otto attended the September meeting of the Dayton Historical Society and presented that organization with a Texas flag to fly with their American flag on flagpoles outside the building on Houston Ave.
“Part of my job is made easier when I hear from folks there is a need,” stated Otto. “A lot of times I don’t hear about a need so I don’t get a chance to help, but Sue Park called me and said that you were in need of a flag to fly outdoors. So, when I happened to go to Austin that Monday to go check on why we weren’t getting our hurricane supplies, I stopped by the Sergeant At Arms Office and picked up a 4X6 nylon Texas flag for you to fly outside because I was told the one you had was not in good shape.”
The state representative jokingly told the group to please keep him informed in the future and he would do whatever he could to help them.
“Now, I can’t get American flags, but I can get all the Texas flags I need,” Otto joked. But I wanted to get this one for you to fly outside over the Old School.”
Historical society members also talked of a planned trip to the Houston Ship Channel to take an excursion by boat down the historic waterway sometime in November. A date had been selected, but it conflicted with Garden Club so it was decided to look for an alternate date. The society plans to create a list of those wanting to go at their October meeting and book space for that many people.
