Second sweep for debris starts Monday in Sugar Land
The second round of all storm debris pickup will begin Monday, Sept. 29 for Sugar Land residents.
Previous pick ups of tree branches and leaves were completed following the storm, but the second phase includes hauling of construction materials, tree trunks and limbs this time around.
Residents do not need to bundle or cut the tree limbs and trunks. The sweep is expected to last two weeks to clear all Sugar Land neighborhoods.
Residents are reminded to place storm debris off the streets and private property into the public right-of-way for pick up. Debris needs to be placed away from mailboxes, fire hydrants and parked cars so the big machinery can pick up the debris.
Debris needs to be separated into two piles, one for vegetation and another for construction debris like lumber and metal materials.
After pick up, residents are asked to bag any left over debris missed during the pick up to keep it from becoming a blockage in the city’s storm drains that could possibly lead to flooding.
Imperial Park, 7720 U.S. Highway 90A, is open during the weekends from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for residents who want to quickly dispose of vegetation. The site is not accepting construction materials.
Residents need to bring a city of Sugar Land water utility bill and photo identification to use the drop off site.
Sugar Land will be conducted a final sweep of the city to pick up debris beginning Monday, Oct. 13 and will last two weeks. All debris must be placed on the curb by Oct. 13 to guarantee pickup.
Regular household garbage, bagged debris and curbside recycling collection will also resume on Monday. Residents should expect delays in pickup over the next few weeks as the services are in heavy demand.
