Phone, Internet access available to residents affected by Ike

Pasadena residents who need FEMA assistance but do not have power or computer access will have the opportunity to get the help they need on Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept. 30 and Nov. 1).
On those days, AT&T has announced that, through a partnership with One Economy Corporation, it will send a special RV outfitted with 25 laptop computers and Internet access to help victims of Hurricane Ike complete forms for FEMA and other assistance agencies. There will be both English and Spanish speakers working the RV.
The RV will arrive in Pasadena on Tuesday, and for that day, it will be stationed at the Cleveland/Ripley Neighborhood Center, located at 720 Fairmont Parkway. The RV will stay within the city on Wednesday, but will be relocated to the Blessed San Juan Diego Catholic Church, which is located at 3301 Pasadena Blvd.
The RV will be at other locations throughout the Houston area before and after its visit to Pasadena. For a complete list of its stops, visit www.ikehelpcenter.org.
The Pasadena Public Library also continues to offer residents computer access as well. The library’s adult department at Pasadena Town Square Mall has five public computers at this time, and two of them will be dedicated to FEMA applications only until further notice.
Residents with laptops that have wireless connectivity can use the library’s free Wi-Fi in and around both mall locations. As an added bonus, kids who accompany their parents to the library can enjoy the feature films that are being shown throughout the day in the children’s department.
In addition, Congressman Nick Lampson also opened a mobile congressional office at American Legion Post 490, which is located at 11702 Galveston Road/State Highway 3 (across from Ellington Airport). The office offers 225 laptop computers with Internet connectivity and 225 cell phones for affected residents to use, and Lampson’s staff will be on hand to help people navigate the FEMA claims process.
