Electrical transformer thieves nabbed
On the afternoon of October 2, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an electrical transformer being stolen on CR 644, in the Trinity River Plaza subdivision outside of Kenefick. When deputy Robert Dunn arrived on the scene, the suspects had already left with the transformer. Deputy Dunn then began searching the immediate area. Within five minutes, Dunn found the three suspects in a yard on CR 6448. The transformer was in the yard with them.
Dunn and assisting deputy Jonathan Clark contacted the owners of the transformer, Sam Houston Electrical Cooperative (SHECO). The SHECO representative stated they would file charges to the fullest extent of the law.
Arrested at the scene were: Luke W. Thornton, 25, of Dayton, Jason R. Guillory, 30, of Dayton, and Christopher L. Edwards, 35, of Onalaska. All three were transported to the Liberty County Jail and booked-in for the offense of Theft, a State Jail Felony. On Friday morning, Justice of the Peace Bobby Rader arraigned the three suspects. Bond was set at $5,000 for each of the three.
Sheriff Greg Arthur stated, “With thefts on the rise after the big storm, citizens have been on the alert for any suspicious activity. The residents in Trinity River Plaza did a great job of looking out for their own, as well as getting excellent suspect descriptions for us to pursue a strong criminal case.”
