A new leader has emerged in the men’s Top-10 standings, while the female Top-10 leader added to her points total following action on the city’s lanes this past week.

Doug Wright jumped over the list’s three other Top-10 players when the Latecomers League player rolled the season’s first 300 game and that piece of perfection led to 15 additional points.

So, Mr. Wright could do no wrong for finishing with the three-game total of 788, giving him those additional 15 points on top of the 40 points for the 300 game.

To refresh everyone on Strikes & Spare’s points system, a player receives 40 points for a perfect game and 15 points for any series of 775 to 799. Any player that rolls an 800 series collects the greatest point value of 50 points. There’s also 25 points for any 299 game rolled.

George Clark, the Week 2 leader, drops to second place with 25 points, while Rusty Zurovec and Rusty Davis both have 15 points, good for a share of third place.

On the women’s side, Heather Jones has begun the new season in sizzling fashion. For the second consecutive week, she used her three games to finish with another 700 series, this time a 723 series during action in the Sparetime Mixed League at Armadilla I Lanes.

Jones has already stockpiled 50 points.

Joining her on the elite list is Jean Cope, who rolled a 709 series in The Rebels League. Cope is a returning Top-10 player. She tied for seventh place last season. In the Strikes & Spares scoring system, any female bowler that rolls a 700 series collects 25 points.

Heather, absent from the 2007-2008 Top-10 list, finished tied for fourth for the 2006-2007 bowling season. But she has already surpassed her points total from two seasons ago.

Returning to the men’s division and the Latecomers League, Rusty Davis had a good week with his 279 game and 752 series. Rocky Zurovec was next with a 706 series. For the ladies, Donna Zurovec employed a 230 game that led to a 667 series. Dee Sanford enjoyed high-game honors with her 233.

For the Sparetime Mixed League folks, James Long just missed bagging some Top-10 points when he went home with a 773 series, aided by his best game of the night, a 279. Jack Simmons followed with a 728 series and his night was topped by a 278 game. Jeff Wood collected a 697 series after rolling a 276 game.

The Party Time Mixed League was the scene of Kirby Pitts’ 731 series and 268 game. However, high-game honors went to Randy Thurston and his 288 game. It allowed Randy to net a 716 series. Just one pin back was Greg Jones Sr.’s 715 series. He too rolled a 268 game. Gretchen Harmon, last season’s city points champion, fell 13 pins shy of collecting her opening 25 points when she recorded a 687 series. Her night was topped by a 245 game.

Play in the Monday Madness League featured some handsome scores from some familiar names. Kyle McDonald led that handsome score parade with his 734 series. Jeff Wood was just four pins back. He took high-game honors with his 279. Danny Trevino found a 716 series and his night was topped by a 276 game. David Merrill was able to brag about a 701 series.

For the ladies in Monday Madness, Heather Jones again led the way by scoring a 666 series and Gretchen Harmon found a 255 game and 655 series.

Marc Miller’s 612 series and 270 game represented the best effort in Arabia Shriners. In the SCORA League, Kirby Brink used a 618 series to lead that pack. Wiley Maris nabbed high-game honors with his 257. Penny Bilski led the ladies with her 201 and 539 series.

Action in the Rebels League featured Jim Stirling’s 680 series and Billy Newberry, Sr.'s 279 games.

Play in the Bay Foursome League had Linda Wright securing a 579 series and Sue Turpin finding a 214 game. In Bowlerettes, Shellie Richardson earned a 279 game that sparked her to a 652 series. The league is currently led by the You Betcha team. They have begun the year with a 14-2 record.
