Missouri City temporarily suspends code enforcement “sweeps”

Published: 09.26.08
In the wake of Hurricane Ike Missouri City residents have been given a temporary reprieve from the citywide code enforcement initiative launched by the city prior to the storm’s arrival.

The City announced that the citywide code and regulation assessment underway in Missouri City is temporarily suspended as a result of damage from the hurricane.

City code inspectors will be available to residents to determine repairs that need to be made and to answer questions concerning hurricane damage to property.

Residents who received letters notifying them of code violations prior to the hurricane will have additional time to correct violations.

“We understand the notices were sent just prior to the hurricane, and we will work with residents to correct any problems, but first things first," said Mike Fogarty, Missouri City code enforcement coordinator.

"The City has not set a definite time to resume the citywide code inspections, but we will provide information prior to resuming," said Fogarty.

"Then we will be inspecting for corrections that were cited during the first week of the assessment.”

The code enforcement is based on the International Property Maintenance Code adopted by Missouri City.
