| Article: | Olafur A. Asgeirsson Olafur A. Asgeirsson, 77, of The Woodlands, passed away, Sunday, October 5, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. Olaf was born August 4, 1931 in Reykjavik, Iceland, as the son of Gudrun Amadottir and Asgeir Olafsson. Olaf, an engineer, began his studies at the University of Iceland. His studies took him to Darmstadt University, University of Bonn, and the Institute of Social Studies in Den Haag (Holland) and earned him a place in Who’s Who in the World. During his studies, he met the love of his life, Gudrun Ottosdottir, to whom he was married for 38 years, until her passing in 1995. Olaf and Gudrun had three children, Otto Asgeirsson of Seattle, Washington, Asgeir Asgeirsson of Alpine, TX, and Gudrun Olafsdottir of Los Angeles, CA. Olaf and Gudrun enjoyed traveling the world, visiting family and friends. Olaf’s engineering employment brought him and his family to the United States in 1967, where they resided briefly in California, Ohio, and New York. In 1975, they arrived in the warm weather at their final destination, The Woodlands, Texas. Olaf worked for The Woodlands Development Corporation until his retirement in 1995. Shortly afterwards, he began a new career at the San Jacinto River Authority, where his devotion to many projects made it difficult to retire again in 2008. Olaf proudly served in the appointed diplomatic position of Honorary Consul of Iceland for the state of Texas for over 15 years. In this capacity, he combined two passions – Texas and Iceland. Olaf is survived by his three children and three daughters-in-law (Ginny Asgeirsson, Diana Asgeirsson, and Betsy Corrigan) and five grandchildren (Erika Asgeirsson, Amanda Asgeirsson, Jon Asgeirsson, Mikael Asgeirsson, and Austin Olafs-Corrigan). He leaves behind many friends. At Olaf’s own wishes and those of his family, please join in celebrating his life. A reception in his memory will be held on Saturday, October 11 (3 p.m. – 6 p.m.) in the Vista Foyer at The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, 2301 North Millbend Drive, The Woodlands, Texas 77380. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital or the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, providing assistance to the victims of Hurricane Ike. |
