Local areas still in the dark, expect power back this week

Many residents in the Humble, Atascocita and Kingwood areas will have to wait a little longer for power in the wake of Hurricane Ike.

Residents who live in the 77339 and 77345 ZIP codes in Kingwood should expect to have power restored by Thursday Sept. 25, according to Melissa Ruiz, a CenterPoint spokeswoman.

Customers living in Atascocita’s 77346 and 77338 ZIP codes might be left in the dark until Sunday, Sept. 28, more than two weeks after Ike slammed the Houston area.

According to Ruiz, 4,076 meters, representing 29 percent, in ZIP code 77339 are left without electricity. There are 2,493 customers, or 31 percent, in 77345 with outages. In 77346 there are 6,449 outages, representing 35 percent, and in 77338 there are 9,796 outages, representing 70 percent of the ZIP.

Ruiz said the efforts to restore electricity were slowed by the number of downed trees that impede workers.
