Ike damage closes Target indefinitely
By JAKE MUONIO
Life is returning to normal in The Woodlands, but the Target retail outlet at 1100 Lake Woodlands Drive in the Pinecroft Center won’t be opening any time soon.
“It was the store in the area that received the most significant damage (from Hurricane Ike),” said Target spokesperson Jenn Glass.
Glass said there is no timeframe yet for the store to reopen.
“The most significant part of the damage is tied to the roof,” Glass said. “We’re obviously working to fix that as soon as possible.”
Glass said she was unable to comment further on the condition of the inside of the store or the amount of inventory damaged by water that got into the building.
Target Corporation employees and officials began assessing the damage to the building almost immediately after the storm, and determined the store would not be in a condition suitable to be reopened.
“We go into repair and restoration mode as soon as a storm is over,” Glass said. “(The store reopening) depends on the availability of materials and contractors.”
Target Corp. has erected a tent in the parking lot of the store as it prepares to begin repairs on the building.
Several other Target stores in the Houston area were temporarily closed as a result of the hurricane, but all were reopened by Thursday, Glass said.
