Come out and meet your neighbors on Tuesday, October 7, at one of the many National Night Out celebrations happening throughout The Woodlands. In its 25th year, the 2008 National Night Out will be held in each of the villages from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The locations for each of the villages’ are Alden Bridge at Alden Bridge Park; Cochran’s Crossing at Shadowbend Park; Indian Springs at Forestgate Park; Panther Creek at Creekwood Park; Grogan’s Mill at Grogan’s Mill Village Center; Sterling Ridge at Cranebrook Park; College Park at Harper’s Landing Park; Creekside Park at Rob Fleming Park; and Town Center at Town Green Park.

With several unique events planned, organizers for National Night Out are gearing up for a big celebration in Town Green Park for residents in The Woodlands Town Center. The Woodlands Township Board Members will be in attendance, as well as various public safety representatives and members of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau that will be on hand to meet residents and answer questions.

“We’re excited to be able to bring this award-winning program to the residents of The Woodlands Town Center. So many new people are moving to The Woodlands Town Center on a monthly basis and this will be a great opportunity for them to meet, discuss local developments and create a strong sense of community. Our partnerships are important, and this is a perfect chance for the residents of Town Center to visit with public safety and other community leaders,” says Marian Leck, Security Manager of The Woodlands Township. As new individuals move into the Town Center area, National Night Out is becoming a great tradition in the “downtown” area of The Woodlands.

Refreshments will be provided by The Community Associations of The Woodlands, and residents are encouraged to bring a picnic and stay a while to meet and greet their neighbors. Other officials that will be present include: Montgomery Country Sheriff’s Office (District 6), The Woodlands Fire Department, and ISSC Security.

National Night Out was started by the National Association of Town Watch in 1984. In its first year, 400 communities and 2.5 million Americans participated in National Night Out. Last year, 11,310 communities and 35.4 million people took part, and this year, officials estimate that over 12,000 communities will be involved in National Night Out. In an article on the National Night Out website, program founder Matt A. Peskin notes that, “It’s a wonderful opportunity for communities nationwide to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention, and neighborhood camaraderie.”

The Woodlands, Texas, was a 2007 National Night Out Award Winner, and with all of the fun activities in store for the neighborhood, The Woodlands is sure to continue its tradition of excellence and strengthen its sense of community.
