FEMA recovery center opens in Rosenberg

The Federal Emergency Management Agency , in partnership with the state, has opened a recovery center in Fort Bend County to provide face-to-face assistance to help residents recover from Hurricane Ike.

The center, in the Fort Bend County Annex at 4520 Reading Road in Rosenberg, will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Before visiting the Disaster Recovery Center, residents should register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3366 or TTY 1-800 462-7585, the numbers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Citizens can also register online by logging on to their Web site, http://www.fema.gov.

The recovery center will be able to:


*provide residents with information about different types of state and federal disaster assistance.

*help completing low-interest loan applications from the U.S.. Small Business Administration available for homeowners, renters and business owners.

*find out the status for applications of federal assistance.

*receive referrals to the American Red Cross and other voluntary organizations to help with immediate unmet needs.

*learn cost-effective measures to reduce the impact of future disaster losses.

Disaster assistance may include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repair and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other sources. Low-interest disaster loans from the SBA also are available for residential and business losses not covered by insurance or other sources.

Residents need to bring their identification, social security number, insurance information, proof of address and contact numbers when they visit the center to expedite the process.
