FEMA sends reps to inspect property damage
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has hired PB Inspections and PaRR Inspections to inspect properties for Hurricane Ike damages in order to determine those eligible for assistance.
"These inspections are free to the public and the inspectors will have badges identifying themselves with either of these companies," Bob Hebert, Fort Bend County Judge, said in a statement Thursday. "Anyone posing as a FEMA inspector and attempting to charge a fee for the inspection or get personal information should be reported to county authorities immediately."
Inspectors will only need to verify the following information:
- The identity of the applicant. Photo identification such as a driver's license or government issued identification card will be needed to prove identity.
- Proof of occupancy at the time of the disaster. A utility bill or a merchant statement will be required.
- Proof of ownership, if an owner. To prove ownership, property owners will need to provide an insurance policy showing structure insurance in the owner's name; title of the property; and a mortgage payment receipt.
- If a renter, a lease agreement will be required as well as a utility bill in the renter's name and name and phone number of the landlord.
All Inspectors will have an electronic pad, which will be used to gather the applicant's information. The inspectors will show the electronic pad to the applicants and ask that they verify the information gathered. Only information that applicants verify to be correct will be collected on the electronic pad.
