Patience requested on debris removal

Updated: 09.29.08
City Hall is asking Friendswood residents to remain patient through the Hurricane Ike debris removal process.

It may take several weeks before all of the storm debris is removed, according to the city. Debris will be picked up everyday including Saturday and Sunday.

City staff is monitoring the debris clean-up to ensure every street and household has their debris picked-up.

Residents should separate their debris into as many as four separate piles:

-Household trash, bagged as usual

-Construction and other residential debris (i.e. sheetrock, wooden fences, metals, etc)

-Bagged storm debris (i.e. leaves, twigs, etc)

-Wooded (vegetative) storm debris (does not have to be cut, bundled or tied)

Storm debris must be placed at the curb in an area accessible to the large debris removal trucks. Per FEMA regulations, all debris must be no further than 12 feet from the curb. In addition, storm debris should NOT be piled around fire hydrants, mailboxes, water meters, gas meters, or other structures.

Regular household garbage pick up will continue as usual. Please do not mix household garbage and trash with storm debris. Please remember to separate your piles. Mixed piles of debris will be the last piles to be picked up.
