Starting in the September 10 edition, the Eastex Advocate will have a whole new look. Most noticeable will be the changes to the front pages, which are expected to make the paper more attractive and appealing to readers.
Instead of having five or more articles to compete for attention on the front page, the new look will highlight one or two articles and have more captivating photos and features.
The redesign of the paper is not the only change planned. Starting in the September 17 edition, the Advocate will be divided into four parts: Section A for news, Section B for features and profiles, Section C for sports and other news, and Section D for classified ads.
“Greater Houston Weekly,” until now a separate part of the paper, will be incorporated into Section B, and will focus more on local content. Section B will also include one of the more popular features in the Advocate — “Profiles.”
“With this redesign, the Cleveland Advocate continues its mission to provide the best coverage for your area,” said Jonathan McElvy, editorial director for Houston Community Newspapers. “The new design seeks to better highlight all the great content in this paper, from news to sports to advertising, and better direct readers to the information they’re looking for. The slimmer feel of the paper from the use of a new printing method helps accentuate the goals of this redesign.”
The redesign comes at a time when the Eastex Advocate has an expanding presence on the Internet. Online stories are added and updated daily.
