Edgewater apartments almost done

The 43-foot entry tower is going up as Edgewater, Webster's first mixed-use, master-planned community, nears completion of its first phase, 414 apartments being built.
When completed, the tower will be visible in the distance from the new NASA Bypass and after landscaping is expected to become a Webster icon.
Atlanta-based Davis Development is building The Villas at Edgewater, with one, two and three-bedroom units on 27 acres.
The apartments are scheduled to open in the near future.
The Edgewater development is located at Sarah Deel and NASA Parkway on land where the former Houston Lighting and Power plant was demolished in 2007.
Most of last year was spent working through the rubble.
Developer Bob Douglas says plans are for Edgewater "to become the area's most prestigious address of European architecture and to encompass an ideal mix of single family and custom single family residences."
Approximately 350 single-family homes are planned and will sell for prices between $300,000 and $2 million.
Clearing and grubbing of the land is still under way with approximately 1,500 pine trees being transplanted around the perimeter of the property, Douglas said, adding that the first section of 60-foot single-family home sites will soon be ready for delivery to the builders.
Also being readied are 33 custom home sites, where homeowners will have the choice of marina docking or housing boats along one the several canals adjacent to their home in the island section of Edgewater.
"Residents also will enjoy a floating slip marina with park, canals, lush landscaping, interconnected boardwalks and nature trails leading to a 35-acre nature preserve situated on the banks of Clear Creek," Douglas said.
Cherokee Webster, which is developing the residential sites, recently got approval from the City Council for the final plats so work can begin soon.
