Miss Texas Teen America 2007 Whitney Washam of Magnolia said she is hopeful the pageant will come to the city she considers a Texas jewel.
“I would love for it to be here,” she said. “I think it would be a great opportunity for girls from a small town to see how a scholarship pageant like this offers so much to the participants.”
Washam who was the 2006 Miss Magnolia, confirmed the Miss Texas Teen America Pageant executive director resigned last year and as a result, the state pageant has been placed on hold. After receiving the title last year, Washam was asked by pageant officials where she would like the next pageant to be, and she said Magnolia.
“I haven’t heard anything since the resignation,” Washam said.
Anne Sundquist, president of the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce which sponsors the local pageant each year, said she is hopeful the Miss Teen Texas Pageant will still come to Magnolia.
“I am still very encouraged,” she said. “It would be wonderful for our city.”
Washam, who will serve as pageant director for the Miss Magnolia Pageant on Feb. 14, 2009, said she is currently attending Lone Star College-Tomball and plans to go on to Sam Houston State University before completing a master’s degree at Texas A&M University. She said the $50,000 scholarship she received as Miss Texas Teen America 2007 is helping with her education in human resource management.
Miss Teen America Scholarship Pageant officials were unavailable for comment.
