The Magnolia Music Festival, a three-day event scheduled Sept. 26 through 28, is offering fun, food, and music, music, music. From country, rock’n roll, Zydeco and Tejano to the new Texas sound, there will be something for everyone to tap their toes to; check online for a complete schedule of entertainers that will take the two stages at the festival.

But, what a lot of people don’t know is that Magnolia’s premiere event will also feature several contests. The Magnolia Idol Singing Contest is open to youth 14 to 17 along with the Guitar Hero Contest. To sign up for the Magnolia Idol Singing Contest or Guitar Hero Contest, registrants may contact Huggie Bear at 713-824-2274 or 281-356-8816, or sign up at the festival from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the children’s area.

Adults and youth alike will enjoy the Horseshoe Contest, Washer Contest and Mud Volleyball competition. The horseshoe competition will open at noon on Saturday, Sept. 27 with a 100 team limit. The washer pitching contest will open at 3 p.m. the same day with a 100 team limit as well. Registration for each contest is $10 per person and $20 per team.

In addition, the Mud Volleyball competition opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. Cost is $100 per tam and each team must include a minimum of six and not more than 10 players. The volleyball contest is open to players 18 and older. The volleyball contest will be limited to 40 teams.

Deadline for registration for these contests is Friday, Sept. 19.

The Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Bar-B-Q Cook-Off at the music festival. MACC President Anne Sundquist reported on Wednesday, Sept. 3, that the International Barbecue Cookers Association two-day event, Sept. 26 and 27, already has 25 teams coming. The cook-off is limited to a total of 40 teams due to space availability. Deadline for entry in the cook-off contest is Monday, Sept. 22.
