League City offices shutting down for Ike

Due to the approach of Hurricane Ike, the City of League City is suggesting voluntary evacuations for all residents who live in low-lying areas.
“At this time city staff is taking every precaution possible to ensure the safety of residents and employees,” Public Information Officer Kristi Wyatt said.
“In doing so, the city has canceled all city-sponsored activities, events and classes for Friday, Sept. 12, and Saturday, Sept. 13.”
All city parks, the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center, the city pool, the Senior Citizen Program and the Helen Hall Library will be closed.
Recycling Services have been suspended due to the storm starting Thursday, Sept. 11.
“The city has already begun preparing for the storm, by topping off all city vehicles, and placing vehicles at staging areas,” Wyatt said.
“Building inspectors are visiting construction sites to brief superintendents on the situation and remind them to tie down equipment and supplies.
“Emergency operations, the League City Police Department, EMS and the fire department are making all the necessary preparations for Hurricane Ike.”
