Builders garage sale to benefit Houston charities

Updated: 09.10.08
Bargain hunters will have new place to call home at the Texas Home and Garden Show, Sept. 19 through 21 at Reliant Center. This year’s show features a home builders garage sale with excess inventory from members of National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) and Greater Houston Builders Association Remodelers Council.

The Home Builders Garage Sale allows area builders to bring their excess inventory of building supplies to sell at the show. Showgoers will be able to purchase these products at the Texas Home and Garden Show all three days.

All proceeds from this garage sale will go to HomeAid Houston, a charity of Greater Houston Builders Association. The remaining items leftover from the sale will be donated to the Houston Area Habitat for Humanity.

The GHBA Remodelers Council, through HomeAid Houston, has become a positive force for change within the Houston community. One of their success stories was Cora Casey who lived in a 20-year-old home in need of major repairs while trying to care for five severely handicapped children. In April 2008, HomeAid Houston gathered more than 20 volunteers and a dozen donors and brought Casey’s home up to par. The project was completed with approximately $100,000 in donations.

“The Casey remodel is exactly the type of project that we are trying to raise money for here at the show” said Jola Dryden, director of the Texas Home and Garden Show. “We hope that not only can visitors to our show find incredible bargains, but also feel good that they are helping their neighbors in the process.”

The Texas Home and Garden Show is an annual favorite with Southeast Texans and is the place to find more than 800 experts in the home and garden field offering ideas on everything from decorating tips to remodeling know-how – including how to get the home ready for the hurricane season. Visitors to the largest home show in Texas will find a shopping experience like no other while getting the latest products and advice on how to protect their homes from the forces of nature.

Show time is 2 to 8 p.m., Sept. 19; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sept. 20; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sept. 21; at Reliant Center. Price of admittance is $9 for adults, and free for children under 12. Purchase tickets online at TexasHomeandGarden.com
