Clear Lake’s girls won their second straight water polo tournament last week, taking the Cy-Creek Jamboree. The boys side of the tournament will be held Sept. 26-27.
The Lady Falcons won six matches and defeated the defending state champions Baytown Sterling 12-10 in the final.
En route Lake defeated The Woodlands, 15-0; Cy-Fair, 22-3; Cy-Ridge, 25-0 and Tomball, 18-3.
In the semifinals the Falcons defeated Clear Creek 23-8.
In the final against Baytown Sterling, Lake fell behind 0-1 but answered back with three goals from Patra Katsigiannis, Katlin Kirasich and Taylor Silva for a 3-1. At the half Lake had a narrow 5-4 lead.
Trading goals, the third period ended 8-8.
With 24 seconds into the final period, Katsigiannis scored to give the Falcons a 9-8 lead they would not relinquish. Kirasich, Taylor Barnett and Danielle Garcia added goals as Lake won 12-10. Katsigiannis scored five goals in the match.
Clear Lake coach Tom Landgraf was impressed with his team’s “…man-down defense. We were ejected nine times and I don’t think they scored once. That’s incredible zone defense.
“Petra was on fire tonight. It’s been a long time since one person scored five goals on Sterling.”
Garcia led the Falcons in scoring in the tourney with 23 goals. Barnett had 18 while Kirasich had 17. Katsigiannis had 13. Garcia added 12 assists and Barnett had 16 steals in the tourney.
Goalie Samantha Krouse had 26 saves in all the games.
Baytown Ross Sterling will get a rematch against the Lake girls tonight when the Falcon teams visit Baytown.
Last week the Clear Lake girls defeated Lamar 21-1 while the Lake boys downed Lamar 17-2.
