Nonprofit organization reaches out for donations

Reaching out to pregnant and parenting teenagers in the Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita and East Montgomery County areas is the mission of Destiny’s Door Pregnancy and Family Education Center, a nonprofit organization.

But in order to offset the costs incurred during the year, the organization will have its second banquet Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Nathaniel Center in Kingwood.

“This banquet is our annual fundraiser because we are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization,” said Connie Gay, president of Destiny’s Door. “This is our time to share with the community what we have done in the past year.”

For this year’s event, the organization is seeking individuals, businesses, organizations, churches and others to host a table for $250. Each host is considered a guest and will receive a free ticket to the banquet. Those who participate are asked to provide a table setting and dessert for the table of eight.

“We will provide a white floor length tablecloth and a complete list of the items hosts will need to make their table,” Gay said. “The dessert makes a beautiful centerpiece enhanced with the addition of candles, flowers, etc.”

According to the nonprofit, the host also agrees to sell the seven additional tickets for the table at $30. All guests are encouraged to adhere to the business casual attire.

In 2007, Destiny’s Door Pregnancy and Family Education Center provided services to more than 200 teenage parents in the area. With the addition of another school district, the organization anticipates it will meet and exceed last year’s numbers.

“We’ve met with two ladies at Pasadena Independent School District and they alone have at least 250 pregnant and parenting teenagers,” she said. “They are trying to start a pilot program at one of their schools and have asked us to be a part of it.”

The nonprofit organization has been in the Humble area for six years. During that time, they have extended services to the East Montgomery County community where they hold classes for their clients at the Mission Northeast.

The organization was established to assist pregnant and parenting youth who are struggling to complete their education while coping with the expense and responsibility of raising a child. Through education, mentoring and learning parenting skills, they will become empowered and enabled to break the cycle of teen pregnancy, welfare dependency, child abuse, and unsuccessful and unsafe relationships.

“We have been dealing with these issues long before it became headline news,” Gay said. “We want people to support us because whether they know it or not, they will pay for it. They can either pay now and help the young parents become self-sufficient for themselves and their children or they can pay later when the parent ends up staying on welfare, food stamps or on other governmental assistance programs.”

The banquet will feature entertainment from stand-up comedian Bob Smiley, recording artist Michelle Reed, and a presentation on teen pregnancy in Texas will be provided by Stephanie Madrid, an intern with KHOU-TV CBS Channel 11.

" It is said that everyone is bi to some extent. Not sure about this. But I also heard about the same from some professional sites. Maybe it depends on how to define it.

If you can appreciate the beauty in both men and women, and find yourself attracted to the person regardless of their gender, then you are bi. Many hot and sexy bi singles & couples on ** BiLoves dotcom ** are looking to explore their bisexuality, coming out or enjoying their lives as bi here.

If you don't know whether You Are Gay, Lesbian Or Bisexual, you may check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDjtVS9iaDA. The psychotherapist Dominic Davies will tell you the answer. "
