Moving day comes for Cleveland seniors organization

Updated: 09.05.08
The Cleveland Senior Citizen Organization (CSCO) is moving. After months of waiting, the staff and services that so many retirees rely on for food and companionship will be moving to a brand new facility.

The new facility, which is located next to the Cleveland Police Department and across from the old senior citizen center, opens September 2.

CSCO director Maxine Morris said that everything but the dishwasher will be ready when the new facility open and the fact that the dishwasher won’t be online has her a little concerned.

“It’s a big deal when you wash as many dishes as we do,” said Morris. While the staff of the senior center is in the process of moving, they have had to shut down the kitchen at the current site.

Morris stated that just because the kitchen has been closed doesn’t mean people aren’t eating.

“We’ve been feeding them chicken from Popeye’s and pizza. Everyone is very understanding of what we are going through,” said Morris.

When the kitchen in the new building opens, it will be almost twice as big as the previous one. The majority of the appliances are made from industrial grade stainless steel.

In addition to the improvements made in the food preparation area, the new facility offers massive improvements in food storage. The new facility features three storage rooms and a walk-in freezer.

The building also features multipurpose space by the front door that can easily be used for increased food or activity storage if needed. Morris and the administrative staff will also have premium office space and a room large enough to use as a cafeteria and dance hall should they desire to do so.

" Very glad to hear this organization has got the help and new building that was so needed, for the older folks in this town, NOW can we start focussing on the YOUTH in this town and build something for them or are they just not important anymore????? "

" Hmmmm, funny how this is the top story now, this morning it was the civic center and chamber of com. and Phillip Cook, seems like the advocate must back Mr. Cook, seeing how they took the article off the web site as soon as a little truth came out, ok CLEVELAND ADVOCATE, HOW ABOUT YOU GUYS HELP OUR CHILDREN, lets come down on the city to build something for our youth, why aren't our kids important anymore????????? "

" Indian Fan,
The senior citizens worked very hard to raise money for their new center (for many years) and they are not part of the City of Cleveland's government. I think we should be congratulating them for all their hard work. By the way, the other articles you mentioned were simply bumped down the list as new stories were added. You can still find them under the "News" tab on the website. "

" Vanessa, apparently you didn't read where I wrote I'm very happy for them as I know it was much needed, and no mam, the Chamber moving to the civic center is NOT moved down, its been deleted, you know we have a hand full of parents in this town that bust there butt to help the youth in this town, other than CISD, no one else has done a thing, you being editor in chief, why don't you take a little time and see what you can get our town to do for our kids, if you don't have the time or find this to be a priority, please let me know......... "

" Indian Fan,
The story you want was bumped off the list by the stories that were added today and yesterday. Here's a link to the story:

It's part of our archives. You can find any archived story by searching the site (see top right-hand corner of this page). Hope that helps. "

" Vanesa, well like I said, it was taken off for a reason, but I expected that, rather curious though to see that you don't find our children worthy enough to even respond to my question to you....... Says alot about you as a person and the buisness you run....... "

" There were folks trying to help the youth but between Annoy and the newspapers I'm not sure if they will help now. I think it was wrong the way they were treated. I know, I know, they made some mistakes. I've been told about the gossip going around about them. I also heard the real truth. Details that were failed to be mentioned by the newspaper. It's sad everytime someone trys to help there are people right behind them to tear it down. Atleast they were trying. I think they deserve a apology. Who's gonna want to stick there necks out there to help when it just gets chopped off. This is why the children are not getting top priority. Since all of this has happened have you heard about any other children's events in the community besides school events. Nope because there's not any. Maybe someone should call this poor lady and give her a helping hand. That's if she is still doing it. "

" Dear Indian Fan, All the things you listed is wonderful. Just take a minute to add up the cost of evrything you listed. I tried to sign my daughter up for baseball last year and just the uniform was $80.00 then the cost of taking them to every practice . Then if she made all-star the cost of another uniform and the travel expense to get her there. I know some families just can't afford this. You are in a area where just eating and clothing these children are tuff. Let's talk about the YMCA it cost $25.00 to $30.00 for one membership. Yes you can purchase a family pack for about $150.00 or $200.00 . The boy scouts and girl scouts are wonderful also, it's still lots of cost involved. It's almost impossible for these families to get thier children involved usless you have money. If you have 4 children forget it. I do know one organization in your town who's events are free . They do all thier events from donations and volunteers. After all the things I read about the C.C.I.C I started my own investigation and found out that the things that were wrote about them in the papers had lots of lacking information that was not told. They have done a fantastic job in creating things for the children in your community at no cost. They just need more help. You should talk to them and find out the real truth. These people have been working really hard to make a differance. They could use someone like you. I know the lady must have a enemy or two because of the lies that are being told about her. I have read story after story on there events and they have had many mnay children who participated in thee events. They must be doing somethig right. They are still learning the ropes. No one is perfect an there will be mistakes. You have to admire thier determination though. Even when being knocked down they are still standing tall and moving forward. They get my respect. These children need a place to go that does not have major cost involved. A family of 5 need to be able to go and be entertained all day for little of nothing. Yes, there will be a Dino-World in Porter. You better have a few hundered dollars to go. I have spoke to one of The Impact Team members yesterday because I was curious in what they were doing. They are wanting to do a youth center that will cost nothing. They are looking for some top notch people from the community to build a great team. They will be doing a Wonderland Of Resources and The Impact Center from what this lady tells me. I think the best thing to do is call the Chambers as I did and get thier phone #. They have been working on thier project for about 2 years and I think you would be surprised at thier levels of concerns and their ambition to have a better community for the children. They have a plan they just need help. I live in Houston and have decided I will be joining and volunteering to help these folks. I have lots of qualification in the Legal Field. I believe I can assist them with lots of issues.
I was impressed with my phone conversation and I think you will be also. "

" Disturbed,
My husband and myself ran the youth football league in this town for the past 3 years, we also participate strongly in baseball, I can personally gurantee you, any child or children have never been turned away due to not being able to afford it, in either league, we have paid thousands of dollars to keep these organizations going, I don't have a child playing youth sports anymore, however, I am faithfully there daily, I pick up kids and take them home, I've supplied uniforms , equipment, whatever is needed, because I have a true passion for youth sports and I think every child should have an oppurtunity to play, however, I understand what you are saying also, I don't know very much about the impact center, because I stay so involved with these two leagues, but I will do a little research, apparently were all striving for the same goal, to help the kids in this town........ "

Indian Fan wrote on Aug 30, 2008 5:03 PM:

" Disturbed, one other thing, the things you listed, and about the cost is not what I suggested, YUTU sent me that last night and listed all of those things that our kids could do in this town, and then deleted the comment, I just copied and then reposted, because apparently he thinks our kids have plenty to by listing all those things......... "

Disturbed wrote on Aug 31, 2008 1:57 PM:

" Dear Indian Fan, These children or very lucky to have you. If there were more people with heart like you and your family we would not have the issues that our children have today. Team up with other organizations and become powerful in the fight for the children. No one can do it alone. I know it is a thankless job you do. Remember these children will remember you forever. Thanks for all you do. "
