Missouri City issues tropical storm Gustav advisory
The city of Missouri City has issued a storm advisory update in response to Tropical Storm Gustav, as the city enters an increased level of readiness.
City updates are based on weather information services reports on Gustav, considered a possible threat to the Texas Coast.
The city will continue to monitor the situation and maintain communications with the Fort Bend Office of Emergency Management.
The city advises residents to monitor weather reports on Tropical Storm Gustav a minimum of two times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.
All indications are that the storm will develop into a strong hurricane.
The City’s emergency management team advises residents to fuel up vehicles, review personal plans for hurricane preparedness such as water supplies and batteries, etc. Additional hurricane preparedness tips are available on the city’s website at www.missouricitytx.gov.
A planning meeting with essential City personnel about the possible activation of the Emergency Operations Center has taken place.
Plans to activate the EOC depend on the direction of the storm, according to a city-issued press release.
The City is also on standby for activating a traffic management plan should residents from the counties south of Fort Bend be asked to evacuate.
The City will continue to stay updated by monitoring the situation and provide advisories as needed.
