Texas Star gymnasts finish high in season opener

Local girls from the Texas Star Gymnastics Women’s Team competed at their first meet of the season Aug. 23 at the District Qualifier which was held in Katy. The event showcased more than 300 athletes from the Houston-area and is the first step in qualification for District Championships, to be held in Tomball at Texas Star Gymnastics Nov. 1-2.

In the first session, first year level 6 athletes Meah Gite and Elizabeth Golden placed in the top five. Gite finished with a 34.00 all around score and placed third on vault, fourth on the balance beam and the all around. Golden placed third on the uneven bars, fourth on the balance beam and fifth on the vault and the all-around with a 35.125.

In the second session, first time competitors Faith Berger, Landry Hill and Ava Schwienteck had a strong showing in the level 5 placement division. Berger tied for second place on bars with a 9.05, while Hill placed third with an 8.75. Schwienteck put up solid scores and finished the day’s event with a 32.15 all around.

The Texas Star Gymnastics women’s team trains at Texas Star Gymnastics located in Tomball and are trained by veteran coaches Jackie and Julian Gomez.
