A man has been arrested and charged with cruelty to animals after he allegedly killed a cat with one blow of his fist.
Pasadena resident Nathan Aubrey has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after he admitted being jealous of his girlfriend’s cat, then allegedly killed it with one blow of his fist.
Pasadena Police Department Public Information Officer Vance Mitchell said that at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, officers were dispatched to 2216 Harris in reference to a disturbance.
“The complainant waiting at the apartment office was approached by a black male who identified himself as 23-year-old Nathan Aubrey,” he said. “Apparently Nathan had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend who he was living with.”
Mitchell said that after the argument, the girlfriend grabbed her 7-month-old cat and left the apartment.
“He told officers that he had become angry at the cat because his girlfriend loved on the cat more than she loved on him,” he said. “He then struck the cat with a closed fist and the cat stopped moving.”
The officers interviewed the girlfriend who was reportedly visibly distraught.
“The officers took photos of the cat and logged them into evidence,” he said.
Officers contacted the Assistant District Attorney and advised them of the facts of the case. Charges of cruelty to animal were accepted.
Aubrey was transported to the city jail. He was later transferred to the Harris County jail where he is currently being jailed on a $2,000 bond.
A court spokesman said Aubrey appeared in State District Court 208 on Friday, Aug. 22. His case has been reset to Friday, Sept. 26.
