Public Safety phone service up and running - again
The Friendswood Public Safety Building spent much of the afternoon and early evening Thursday with a disruption to phone service after a construction crew severed underground phone lines at about 12:05 p.m., for the second time in two weeks.
On August 26, a construction crew in the 1300 block of W. Parkwood severed lines with a backhoe. On Thursday, the crew reportedly had failed to stabilize ditch walls surrounding the phone lines as they were preparing to install sewer line to a newly constructed office park.
City officials issued the construction superintendent two citations, one for reckless damage, a class C misdemeanor, and another for a City code violation.
By 7 p.m. Thursday, all the circuits in and out of Friendswood's public safety building had been completely restored. A public safety dispatcher sent to Webster was released and operations at the Friendswood 9-1-1 call center resumed.
