Driver arrested for marijuana possession
On Aug. 19, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy B. Katrib saw a driver violate several traffic laws in the 9000 block of Mills Road and made the man pull over for a traffic stop.
As he approached the vehicle, he smelled marijuana near the rear, and as the man rolled the window down, the odor of burnt marijuana emitted from the interior.
The driver was removed from the car and a search revealed a usable amount of marijuana. Approximately 10 more ounces was found in the rear of the vehicle.
Hieu Tieu, 26, of Houston, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. He was later released on a $2,000 bond and is awaiting his next court appearance on Sept. 16.
Theft suspects flee police
On Aug. 21, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy C. Smith was dispatched to the Kohl’s department store at 22529 Tomball Parkway in reference to a theft in progress.
Smith contacted the loss prevention officer prior to his arrival to obtain a description of the suspects, and when he arrived, he saw the two hurriedly leaving the store. He attempted to make contact with the suspects, but they got into a car and left the parking lot.
The officer attempted to stop the car, but the driver refused, so the officer followed the suspects through a residential area as the passenger began to throw the stolen merchandise out of the window. The man drove erratically over curbs and through one residential fence in an attempt to avoid capture.
Smith continued to keep a visual on the fleeing suspect and at one point, exited his vehicle as the driver nearly lost control of the car. The driver then directed his car at Smith, but the deputy moved out of the way and avoided injuries.
The officer lost sight of the vehicle as it sped eastward on Jones Road, but moments later Harris County dispatch advised that a homeowner saw two people running from a car that had crashed at Ericston Drive and Jones Road.
Additional officers arrived to assist in the search, and a K-9 unit tracked the two suspects hiding in bushes in the backyard of a vacant house in the 11300 block of Ericston. Both were taken into custody without incident.
Driver David Flourney, 38, of Huffman, was arrested and charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle and felony theft. He has since plead guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 10 months in the state jail.
The second suspect, Jamie Hagerman, 34, of Houston, was arrested and charged with felony theft, and has been sentenced to six months in the state jail.
On Aug. 24, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy D. Sled was directing traffic at the intersection of West FM 1960 and Windemere Lakes Boulevard at the scene of a major accident.
While he was retrieving an item from his patrol car, he saw a vehicle rapidly approaching from the rear. The car struck the officer’s car as he attempted to exit, striking him in the back and hip area.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Clinton Salisbury, exhibited signs of intoxication and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Salisbury was on parole for burglary of a habitation which has since been revoked. He is being held in the Harris County Jail on a $2,500 bond awaiting his next court appearance
