The deputy contacted the Loss Prevention Officer prior to his arrival to obtain a description of the suspects and their actions. The deputy arrived at the department store and saw the two suspects exit the store in a hurried manner. He attempted to make contact with the suspects but they entered a vehicle and exited the parking lot. The deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop; however, the driver refused to stop. The deputy pursued the suspects through a residential area as the passenger began to throw the stolen merchandise out of the window. The driver drove erratically over curbs and through one residential fence in an attempt to avoid capture. The deputy continued to keep a visual on the fleeing suspect. At one point the deputy exited his vehicle as the driver nearly lost control of the vehicle. At that time the driver directed his vehicle at the deputy, who was able to move out of the way and avoided injuries. The deputy lost sight of the vehicle as it sped eastward on Jones Road. Moments later Harris County dispatch advised a homeowner saw two people running from a vehicle that had crashed at Ericston and Jones Road. Additional patrol units as well as K-9 arrived to assist in locating the suspects. The K-9 unit was able to track the two suspects hiding in bushes in the backyard of a vacant house in the 11300 block of Ericston. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident. The driver, a 38-year-old Huffman man, was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle and Felony Theft.
