Suspect leads Pasadena police on chase

Updated: 08.29.08
For The Citizen

At 12:47 p.m. Thursday, the Pasadena Police Department received a report of an aggravated robbery in progress at the Radio Shack located at 142 Southmore.

As units converged on the area, the suspect fled the store having departed within minutes of responding units. A description of the suspect was broadcast over the police radio.

Within minutes, an on duty uniformed officer in a marked unit observed an individual corresponding in description with that of the suspect, and observed him to be driving a maroon extended-cab late-model Dodge pickup truck northbound on Main Street at Highway 225. The officer followed the vehicle on Highway 225 to 610 North as additional information was gathered from the dispatcher.

The suspect vehicle suddenly crossed multiple lanes of traffic and exited 610 at the Clinton Drive exit apparently attempting to evade the officer who responded by attempting to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled briefly, ran against oncoming traffic, after which the driver abandoned the vehicle on the Manchester exit ramp at 610 then jumped approximately 20 feet from the ramp to the ground below.

The suspect, a 34-year-old black male armed with a semi-automatic handgun, was injured upon impact with the ground and was taken into custody without further incident.   aggravated robbery charges are pending.

The injuries included a possible broken arm and nose. He received medical treatment and his status is “in-custody.”

The suspect had stolen several hundred dollars and several electronic components. All of these items were recovered.
