| The sign itself remains for the time being. |
Demolition crews this week razed the former site of the State Grille restaurant, 2925 Weslayan St., which held its final feast in May.
The newly cleared property is one of several parcels on the northeast corner of Weslayan and West Alabama streets owned by the Interfin Cos. and listed as “future development land” on the company’s website.
Interfin has “no plans and no timing as of now,” Isabel Schmidt, a company spokeswoman, said on Friday.
Harris County Appraisal District records show Interfin has been acquiring parcels adjacent to the restaurant site since June 2006. The Interfin Westlayan LP also owns 2727 Weslayan St. , 3816 West Alabama St. and 3820 West Alabama St., which are single-story office buildings, miscellaneous surface parking and a vacant lot.
Together with the State Grille site, Interfin holdings total about two acres.
The site razed this week has had a restaurant on it for more than 50 years.
The Black Angus opened 55 years ago. From 1993-’99, Betty and Gordon Edge operated the property as as the Confederate House before selling it to Frankie Mandola and Bubba Butera, who ran the State Grille.
