Women’s Imaging Center Focuses on Quicker Diagnosis,
From Staff Reports
With breast health as its main focus and advanced medical services all under one roof, Cypress Fairbanks Women’s Imaging Center is striving to provide a better standard of care for its patients. The recently opened center at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital was designed from a facility standpoint as well as from a patient care perspective to provide more comprehensive care to women of the northwest Houston community. The center offers digital screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, bone densitometry, and stereotactic and ultrasound guided biopsies.
Combining the benefits of digital mammography and the availability of radiologists on-site, this American College of Radiology accredited facility has helped women discover their diagnosis in a comfortable, caring setting. In just three months of the center’s opening earlier this year, sixty breast biopsies had been performed, seventeen of which were performed the same day the patient visited the center for their mammogram and an abnormality was detected. Of the sixty biopsies, 20% were positive for cancer.
“We are proud of what we have accomplished thus far,” says Jeffrey Zatorski, M.D., Radiology Department Chairman at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital. “We have succeeded in decreasing the amount of time that our patients have to wait for a diagnosis and, in turn, giving them a better prognosis.”
It is the goal of the Cypress Fairbanks Women’s Imaging Center is to help women discover breast cancer sooner. Earlier detection means better survival rates - for women who are diagnosed early with breast cancer, the five year survival rate is 88 percent according to the American Cancer Society. The center is dedicated to educating the community on breast health and the importance of breast exams through free seminars and health fairs.
Cypress Fairbanks Women’s Imaging Center offers quality care and a supportive environment that’s tailored to female patients. In addition to women’s diagnostic imaging, Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital offers a comprehensive oncology program, cancer education, and one-on-one assistance and emotional support when needed from members of the staff that are cancer survivors.
