NCACC’s Jackpot event a huge winner for community

Raising funds for a good cause is always a safe bet, and the North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce’s jackpot event was just the ticket raising almost $7,000, Aug. 23, to benefit the community.
Included in the list of various North Channel projects are tree planting efforts, disaster relief, vocational and technical scholarships and economic development projects.
“All of the businesses that participate in this event have a good time,” said Aaron Woods, chair for the Jackpot event. “It’s important to remember why we are doing it – to educate North Channel students.”
Woods is also a spokesman for LyondellBassell, the major sponsor for the Jackpot.
“Companies like LyondellBassell continue to struggle to find quality workers from our community,” Woods said. “We don’t want to bring in others to work for our complexes. We want them from our local community. They have to have a quality education. Scholarships play an important role in that.”
Designed to simulate a Las Vegas atmosphere, the evening featured casino tables where participants played games like blackjack, roulette, Texas Hold ‘Em and craps – all using fake money. In addition, guests also danced to music and performed karaoke.
Corporate tables went for $500 apiece. The Jacinto City Town Center served as the site for the event.
Co-chairs for the event were Dawn Thompson-Fisher; Purdue, Brandon LLP; and Monica Gonzalez of Coffee Contigo.
Casino Las Vegas Style provided card dealers for the event and Steppin’ Out provided a disc jockey. Food came from the Galena Park ISD student nutrition department; and security service from the Jacinto City Police Department.
