GAME TWO RALLY PROPELS K-PARK PAST NEW CANEY

Looking to rebound from a disappointing loss in the championship round of their own tournament this past weekend, the Kingwood Park High School volleyball team was determined not to let another game slip through its hands tonight against New Caney High School.

After losing game two, Kingwood Park used a dramatic comeback win in game three to propel themselves to the eventual 3-1 win.

After taking a 25-17 game one win, Kingwood Park faltered in game two.

After establishing a 19-17 lead in game two, Kingwood Park fell 25-20, as a result of late game heroics from New Caney’s Dallas Kallies and Roberta Cortopassi.

New Caney’s game two comeback sparked the Lady Eagles to a 19-11 lead in game three, however, the lead was short lived.

Kingwood Park roared back into the game by scoring six unanswered points before eventually knotting the game at 20.

With the game tied, Kingwood Park powered past New Caney for the win thanks brilliant team defense and a crushing game point kill from Emily Salter.

Kingwood Park wrapped up the match in game four with a 25-17 win.

Nausheen Merchant lead Kingwood Park on defense with 16 digs, while Allie Uhrenholdt lead the team in kills with 11.

For New Caney

HUMBLE FALLS SHORT AGAINST SPRING WOODS

The Humble High School volleyball team stumbled in its search for the elusive first win on Tuesday, falling 3-0 to Spring Woods High School.

Humble (0-3) was never close in the first game, as Spring Woods took a quick 7-1 lead before eventually winning 25-5.

The second game saw the Wildcats score three straight points to pull within 13-6, but after a timeout the Tigers went on a 6-0 run that effectively put the game away. Spring Woods won the second game 25-8.

The third game featured Humble’s best play of the season thus far. The Wildcats showed flashes of excellent play, making several key blocks and forcing a few Tiger errors. But Spring Woods pulled away with a 25-10 victory to close out the match.

Despite the strong effort, Humble coach Patrick Luna said he was unhappy with his team’s execution.

“In practice, they’ve been doing a great job of rotating, transitioning and just playing volleyball, but when we get into a game it’s like we just forget everything that we’ve been practicing. That’s unacceptable right now.” Luna said.

SPLENDORA OVERCOMES MAC ARTHUR

After losing the first game of the match, the Splendora High School volleyball team rebounded to edge Aldine MacArthur 3-1 for the win.

The athletic and gutsy Aldine MacArthur squad stole game one 25-23, but the Ladycats quickly found their grove, taking the next three games, 25-19, 25-19, 25-7, to win the match.

“I think at first we played a little flat, but we finally picked it up,” Splendora head coach Twyana Atkins said. “The seniors brought the team back together.”

Setter Megan Gros, middle blocker Misty Robison and outside hitter Haley Jones all received praise for their performances from Atkins.

“Gros came out and did what she needed to do to get the ball to the second setter,” Atkins said. “Robison saw the court well and played the ball where it needed to go, and Jones came in and got some blocks when it was crucial.”

Splendora’s Shelby Ruderman led the team in kills with 13, while libero Shauna McClure piled up 22 digs against a strong group of MacArthur hitters.
