DeForde wins Teen United crown

Grace DeForde

Updated: 08.27.08
Texas native, Friendswood resident and Clear Brook High School senior Grace DeForde has been crowned the 2008 Teen United Nation International.

Grace competed against other young ladies from as far away as Singapore, Bulgaria, West Africa and the Dominican Republic as well as young ladies from throughout the United States.

The International Finals were held in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 26, and competition events consisted of: personal interview, fitness wear, fashion wear, and evening gown.

While in Utah, Grace had the opportunity to visit with and deliver gifts to patients at Primary Children’s Hospital and the Shriner’s Hospital, as well as tour the LDS Humanitarian Center.

She and the other young ladies enjoyed free time visiting the Lagoon Amusement/Water Park and Young Living Lavendar Farms. Miss DeForde will spend the next year traveling throughout Texas, the United States and hopefully abroad promoting her platform – Teach the E’s: Encourage, Empower, Educate.

Her platform stems from a volunteer project that she began approximately seven years ago. She also plans to contribute time to working with the ASPCA. After high school Miss DeForde would like to attend Colorado State University majoring in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and minoring in Political Science.
