Child injured after crossing FM 1485 in New Caney

A 12-year-old child was severely injured after he was hit by a vehicle while walking across FM 1485 in New Caney Aug. 25.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety Office in New Caney, the child crossed FM 1485 when the traffic light was red.
“After further investigation, we believe that he walked against the advice of the crosswalk signal and when the traffic light turned green, he was hit by a motorist driving westbound on FM 1485,” said Trooper Paul Kohleffel. “The driver did not see the child and we were told that he tried to run fast, but was hit.”
After the student was struck by the car, he flipped on top of the car and shattered the front windshield. He was taken by ground transportation to the Kingwood Medical Center with severe but non-life threatening injuries. The driver was not injured but was shaken up.
“We are not going to press charges against the driver or the student,” Kohleffel. “This was an accident.”
The accident took place near the Rocking Horse Daycare Center at approximately 4:25 p.m. the same day as the students’ first day of school.
