Longtime Borden employee killed in East County wreck

Updated: 08.26.08
Employees at Borden Milk Products in Conroe were grieving the loss of a longtime co-worker who died in an early morning accident Tuesday.

David Preston Carter, 51, was traveling to work around 6 a.m. when the driver of another vehicle allegedly failed to yield at the intersection of FM 1314 and Timberland in Porter, Sgt. Dean Nance, of the Department of Public Safety New Caney Highway Patrol, said. Carter was headed west on FM 1314 on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle when the four-door sedan, driven by a Porter man in his 30s, allegedly failed to observe a stop sign at Timberland as he attempted to turn left onto FM 1314.

Carter’s motorcycle crashed into the driver’s side of the vehicle. Carter died at the scene, Nance said.

Carter, who was married and had children, had been an employee at Borden Milk Products since 1986.

“David has been a part of our maintenance department in Conroe since the plant was built,” said David Wendt, maintenance manager at Borden. “We lost an important member of the Borden family today. It was a shock to all the employees, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver of the car. The accident remains under investigation.

" Sadly Mr. Carter is another statistic adding to the number of death's of motorcycle riders in Montgomery County. With the price of gas so high, more people are turning to cycles. Drivers of cars and trucks need to be more aware of their surroundings when on the roads. My prayers are with the family. "

" My prayers and thoughts are with the Carter Family. My husband is an employee at Borden and knew Mr. Carter. He was in such disbelief yesterday. Living off of this FM 1314 is taken a toll on me lately. Please if you travel this road.. Please, watch out for others and be considerate of all on the road. This had become a very dangerous road to travel. My family has experienced tragedies and we are all sending out our condolences to his family at this time! "

" If the other driver allegedly failed to yield at the intersection of FM 1314 is not that a reason enough? "

" My husband also an employee at Borden's was distraught over the news. He also being an owner of a motorcycle can relate to the inconsideration of some drivers. People are always in a hurry and just need to look twice. Our condolences go out to the Carter family at this time . Life goes by too fast anyway slow down and watch out for others. "

" Yes this was a very sad subject for my fiance and I as well. We were on our way back from getting breakfast before my fiance went to work when we came up on the accident. We performed CPR on Mr. Carter until the paramedics got there, but it was not helping. My condolences go out to the entire Carter family and all of the Borden Family that he spent his time with at work...my prayers are with them as well. "

" I am so sorry to hear about this. Drivers who fail to yield to any motor vehicle on the road should be prosecuted fully and made examples of so this will capture the attention and help stop this needless killing on our streets. There are too many injuries and fatalities that should have been avoided if drivers would just pay attention and follow the simple rules of driving. Drivers in cars need to quit distracting themself with cell phones, gps, computers, radios, or whatever their mind is on and give respect to any other vehicles on the road, especially motorcycles. Maybe if the law was changed to a murder charge instead of lesser charges people would take driving more seriously. Drivers who hit and kill people out of reckless and negligent driving should have their driving license revoked permanently and ordered to pay restitution to their victims also for their lifetime. This article should explain why aren't there any charges immediately filed on this case when obviously someone is at fault and we know its not the motorcycle driver? It just isn't fair and this family deserves justice. Prayers and sympathy to the Carter family. "
