Police report
A summary of calls to the West University Place police in recent days.
West U police are investigating two motor vehicle burglaries and several cases of misuse of credit or ATM card, which occurred in the city last week.
A resident of the 3500 block of Plumb Street reported that someone forced entry into her car and stole several items Aug. 18.
On Aug. 21, West U police were called about the burglary of a pick-up truck with its window knocked out in the 4100 block of Byron Street. An officer was able to locate the owner of the vehicle, who said that a pink bag was missing from the front floor board of the truck.
West U police were called about several cases of fraud.
On Aug. 17, a resident of the 4200 block of Southwestern Street reported someone had used a debit card to withdraw money from ATM machines “at many locations.”
On Aug. 19, a West U resident went to the police station to report someone had used his credit card information to withdraw $1,000 from his account without permission.
At 4:45 p.m. Aug. 21, a West U resident went to the police station to report that someone had apparently used his missing driver’s license and received a citation. The resident discovered the ticket after receiving a letter from the city’s Municipal Court about missing a court date.
West U police are investigating the Aug. 19 burglary of a building in the 3800 block of Rice Boulevard. The crime involved the theft of construction materials from a residence under construction.
Officers also are looking into the Aug. 20 theft of two large planters from the front of a home in the 3900 block of Byron St.. The resident reported the planters were gone at 8 p.m.
West U police arrested a person for “soliciting after hours” in the 5400 block of Community Drive at 9:05 p.m. Aug. 20. The city requires solicitors to register and limits the hours they are allowed to work.
A driver, who was stopped in the 6500 block of Buffalo Speedway on August 20 for driving “at a high rate of speed,” was arrested after showing an officer a fake driver’s license. The officer discovered that the man had three outstanding traffic warrants from the city of Webster.
An inventory of the vehicle uncovered another fake Texas driver’s license and what appeared to be forged checks. The man was charged with fraudulent use and possession of false identifying information.
At 1:57 a..m. Aug. 21, two men were taken into custody on charges of public intoxication. Their vehicle was stopped in a traffic lane in the 4200 block of Bissonnet Street when an officer saw them standing next to it. The pair “showed signs of intoxication and appeared to be a danger to themselves,” according to the police report.
West U police are investigating a minor accident in the 6600 block of Community Drive, where the driver who struck a parked vehicle failed to stop and give information. The accident happened at 10:06 a.m. Aug. 22.
Another accident happened later that day in the 4000 block of Rice Boulevard. The victim in that accident reported that while making a left turn from Weslayan Street onto Rice, the driver behind him attempted to pass his car, striking the vehicle on the driver’s side. The other car left the accident scene without giving proper information.
On Aug. 23, police were called to a home in the 4200 block of Swarthmore Street. The resident reported receiving a phone called from Federal Express, from a man who identified himself as “Robert,” and who asked for the address and ZIP code, in order to verify package delivery. The resident gave the caller the information requested but decided to report it to the police.
