Clinton Kelly showed Macy’s patrons ‘What Not to Wear’

Clinton Kelly leads an audience volunteer to the stage for some humerous but heartfelt fashion advice during his recent visit to the Pearland Town Center Macy’s.

He mocked their frumpy T-shirts, and they giggled.

He tossed acid bombs at their necklines, their Capri pants, their shoes and they laughed out loud.

He rolled his eyes at their ill-fitting bras, and they clapped and whistled.

How’s the guy get away with this?

If the guy is Clinton Kelly, witty co-host of The Learning Channel’s “What Not To Wear,” he gets away with it.

On the hit cable show, Kelly and co-host Stacy London subject their female fashion victims to the harsh-but-helpful opinions, returning the focus to what attire can make any body look good after a sometimes acidic, very often hilarious takedown of what the ladies usually wear (Kelly’s pet peeve is the “pajamafication” of America, in which haute sloth is the look of choice).

Kelly brought a live version of the show to the new Macy’s at Pearland Town Center recently. He invited a few from the mostly female audience up onstage in Macy’s for some candid fashion talk and tips to remember.

One victim, er, volunteer was togged out in a shapeless lime green T-shirt, knee-length denim shorts and shirt-matching green tennies – what Kelly kindly called the “Spongebob Look.”

After several others had what passes for their fashion sense good-naturedly skewered by Kelly, He trotted out a variety of models to show what can work on any style shape. The models ran the gamut from Runway-Thin to Suburban Voluptuous, all looks that Kelly said could look great with the right “What To Wear.”

Prior to the show, Kelly offered a few fashion tips for the Texas heat, such as layering and choosing the right fabric for the humidity.

He even had a few tips for the guys, especially the corporate suits who the day before had been melting during Pearland Town Center’s outdoor grand opening.

“No business meeting is worth heat stroke,” Kelly said.
