Democrats invite public to meet their candidates

Updated: 08.20.08
The Bay Area New Democrats organization is inviting their Bay Area neighbors to help launch the vote for what members consider the most important election campaign ever in the Bay Area.

Festivities at the Movin’ In Party Saturday, Aug. 23, from 2-7 p.m., will include food, music, an IPOD raffle, door prizes, speakers and a featured player from the Houston Dynamos, at the new BAND headquarters in the former Randall’s shopping center at 568 El Dorado and Highway 3.

Special guest speakers at the event will be Congressman Nick Lampson; Houston City Councilwoman Melissa Noriega, whose husband, Rick Noriega, is running for the U.S. Senate; Texas Senate candidate Joe Jaworski; and Texas House of Representatives candidate Sherrie Matula.

Local candidates for county and other offices will be on hand throughout the afternoon and evening to speak and to meet voters.

Tickets for dinner are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Diners will have a choice of a fajita meal, from Family Cuisine, or a kabob roll or vegetarian meal, from Shalimar Restaurant. Tickets may be purchased in advance, at BAND headquarters, or contact Mohammed Nasrullah at bigmomkn@yahoo.com or Louisa Hodges at weesie_lsh@yahoo.com.

Tickets also will be available at the door on Aug. 23, but advance purchases are recommended.

BAND meets at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month on the second floor of the Harris County Courthouse Annex on Buccaneer. This month’s meeting will be on Aug. 13.

For additional information, contact Vicki M. Cherewaty at 281-488-7357.
