Houston plans hearing on airport land use

Published: 08.07.08
Houston District E Councilman Mike Sullivan will attend a public hearing held by the Houston Airport Commission on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 2:30 p.m. in the George R. Brown Convention Center, third floor.

The purpose of the public hearing is to allow interested citizens to be heard concerning proposed regulations for Airport Compatible Land Use in the vicinity of Bush Intercontinental, Hobby and Ellington Airports.

Under federal law, as a recipient of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airport development grants, the City of Houston is required to assure that “appropriate actions have been taken to restrict the use of land adjacent to or near the airport.”

Compliance is both a matter of federal law and is necessary to protect the City of Houston’s airports from encroachment and incompatible land uses that may affect safety, reduce capacity or hinder future growth and federal funding.

Anyone wishing to speak before the Commission must register on a designated form at the entrance to the meeting. Each speaker will be allowed a maximum of two minutes to speak to the Commission on the item.
