A woman was charged with DWI after rear ending a motorist, then falling asleep behind the wheel.

Dawn Ann Tate, 48, was charged with driving while intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle on Tuesday.

Pasadena Police Department Public Information Officer Vance Mitchell said that at 8:25 p.m. Aug. 5, officers were dispatched to a minor accident in the 7400 block of Spencer Highway.

“The officer arrived on the scene and contacted the witness who said he was stopped at a red light and was struck from behind by a vehicle,” he said.

The officer contacted the suspect.

“He observed that the suspect had fallen asleep behind the wheel,” said Mitchell. “He called for a DWI Task Force unit to check by.”

The DWI Task Force officer performed a series of testing and reported that Tate appeared to be intoxicated on something other than alcohol.

“She was taken into custody and transported to the city jail,” said Mitchell.

Tate is charged with driving while intoxicated and is scheduled to appear in a Harris County court on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Mitchell said that while on routine patrol in the 3100 block of Spencer Highway just after midnight on Aug. 6, an officer observed a vehicle driving westbound on Spencer in the middle lane of traffic.

“He initiated a traffic stop,” said Mitchell. “The vehicle did stop and the officer observed there were two occupants in the vehicle. He identified the driver as 43-year-old George Edwin Watson of South Houston.”

While exiting the vehicle, the officer observed Watson as being unsteady on his feet.

“He requested a DWI Task Force officer to check by,” said Mitchell. “The officer identified the passenger as Christina Sporcic of Pasadena.

She was observed to have slurred speech, Mitchell said. She was taken into custody for public intoxication on something other than alcohol.

The DWI Task Force made contact with the driver.

“The officers performed a series of sobriety testing and the test results indicated that Watson was intoxicated,” said Mitchell.

“He was placed in the officer’s patrol unit and was arrested.”

The officers contacted the District Attorney’s office. “They were advised that they would accept DWI charges against Watson,” said Mitchell.

Watson is scheduled to appear in Harris County Court 14 on Aug. 13.
