Jerome Gray, KPRC Local 2 news anchor will emcee this year’s Boots & Band-Aid Ball, benefiting TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries - a non-profit, minimal-fee clinic.

TOMAGWA serves families and individuals in the Tomball, Magnolia and Waller communities who do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare.

The annual fund-raiser will be held this year on Friday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 11 p.m., at Wyndehaven Terrace located at 12716 Cutten Rd. in Houston. Tickets are $75 per person, seating is limited.

Promoted as a “refined western event” the ball offers entertainment, food, silent and live auctions and dancing.

The goal for the evening is to provide direct support to TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries which receives no government or United Way funding. The “2008 Boots & Band-Aid Ball” is the primary fund-raising event for the non-profit.

TOMAGWA began in 1989 as a grassroots movement started by a group of citizens from Tomball, Maggolia, and Waller. The clinic has expanded over the years from a part-time facility operated by a small group of volunteers to a full-time, comprehensive family practice center utilizing a small staff along with nearly 170 volunteers.

TOMAGWA is the only facility of its kind within its 460-square mile service area. It is estimated that 1 in 4 people are without medical coverage in the clinic’s service area.

TOMAGWA provides primary and non-emergency health care services, including but not limited to children’s health checkups and immunizations, women’s and men’s health checkups, cardiac evaluations, comprehensive diabetes management, respiratory therapy, lab work and x-rays, medication assistance, patient education, vision and hearing screenings, obesity management, nutrition counseling, smoking cessation education, depression management, and referrals to the clinic’s in-service medical specialists who often treat TOMAGWA patients without charge.
