Shelters open in and around Montgomery County

Several cooling centers and shelters are open today to serve Montgomery County residents. These will be available for anyone needing assistance during Tropical Storm Edouard.

Cooling centers

• Sallas Sports Complex, located at 21675 McClesky in New Caney

• Montgomery County Community Center, located at 16401 First Street in Splendora


• Magnolia Community Center, located at 422 Melton in Magnolia

Shelters

• First United Methodist Church in Conroe, located at 4308 W. Davis St.

• United Methodist Church in Humble, located at 800 Main St.

• Christbridge Fellowship Church in Tomball, located at 29510 Parkway

The Montgomery County-Cares website, www.mc-cares.org, is a critical resource for those in need. The Montgomery County United Way helpline will be available for recovery efforts. The number to call is (888) 844-6289, ext. 235 in The Woodlands area and (888) 825-9682, ext. 235 in the Conroe area.

" the national and local response to this storm was bizzare. Are we that desperate for global warming to be true that we respond to a little storm with more urgency then we do for a major hurricane? Good grief! People went surfing and jogging in this storm and highways were shut down. What is wrong with you people? The media over reacts to create a story out of nothing and the public panics. Galveston was not evacuated but emergency shelters were opened to handle the deluge of refugees. Whats wrong with this picture? "
