With cameras in every room, strangers around every corner and no contact with the outside world, contestants on CBS’s “Big Brother” can be in for a bit of a culture shock.
But Spring resident Libra Thompson, known only as Libra on the show, didn’t seem nervous in promotional videos for the show’s 10th season.
“They’re just a bunch of crazy people on the show. Obviously, I’m crazy for going,” she said in the promo.
According to her “Big Brother” bio, Thompson has been married for seven years and is the mother of a 4-year-old daughter and 4-month-old twins. She also identifies herself as a Barack Obama supporter “living in the heart of Bush country.” Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree from Rice University in political science and economics and played National Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball for the Owls.
Thompson, one of three Texans chosen for the show this season, will be sharing the house with 12 other guests — hopefully for the full three months of the season. As the show progresses, houseguests are voted out. The last to remain will receive a cash prize of $500,000.
In season 10, none of the houseguests knew each other before moving in together. As the world watches, Thompson will get to know people ranging in age from 22 to 75, from all over the country and from various backgrounds.
“My worst nightmare would be a staunch Republican, because I’m a staunch Democrat,” she said in a promo before the season premiere.
She may have issues with housemate Dan, a 24-year-old Catholic school teacher said to be as conservative as Libra is liberal.
Also joining her in the house are fellow Texans Jerry Mac Donald and Steven Daigle. A retiree from nearby Magnolia, the 75-year-old Mac Donald is the oldest houseguest on the show. Daigle, a 35-year-old geographic consultant from Dallas, is also a champion bull rider in the gay rodeo circuit.
Big Brother airs at 7 p.m. Sundays, 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 7 p.m. Wednesdays on CBS. For more information, visit the show’s website at www.cbs.com/primetime/ big_brother.
